O akci

Sun choreografky Kasii Wolińské, rodinné představení Birth Days pro děti od 3 let a kontroverzní inscenaci To bitch or not to bitch uskupení Hertz Haus.

  • Phoenix.Sun – česká premiéra tanečního představení o transformaci, zrození a zániku, inspirovaného osobní zkušeností autorky s vyhořením.
  • To bitch or not to bitch – silná inscenace o hranicích čistoty a špíny, fyzičnosti a tabu, oceněná na Shakespearovských slavnostech v Gdaňsku.
  • Practice of Change – laboratorní setkání zaměřené na udržitelné a inkluzivní modely umělecké tvorby.

Norma 2026 – Znovuzrození
23.-25. října, 2026 ~ Studio Hrdinů

Tři představení letošního, již osmého, ročníku festivalu představí převážně současnou polskou taneční scénu. Všechny propojuje silný myšlenkový základ a prolínání filozofie s kulturně společenskými aspekty. Sobotní večer pak bude patřit představení To bitch or not to bitch uskupení Hertz Haus, které se objevilo v letošním výběru Polské taneční platformy (konání září 2026).

Sun. Výstupy z této spolupráce mají podobu workshopů a seminářů. Festival Norma a Dance Connected hostí laboratorní setkání organizované Performat Foundation a Institutem Adama Mickiewicze.

Magistrát hlavního města Prahy, Praha 7, polský Národní institut hudby a tance v rámci programu PolandDances / Tournée a polské Ministerstvo kultury a národního dědictví.

Oheň je motorem a nástrojem transformace: spalování, zničení, znovuzrození. Phoenix.

Jde o pokus konfrontovat a transformovat realitu v plamenech a svět v environmentální, politické a sociokulturní krizi.

V kulturních a sociálních kontextech uzavíráme koncepty a soudy.

Musique Concrète využívá spíše surové materiály: environmentální nahrávky, píšťalky vlaků, lidské hlasy a zvuky strojů než standardní hudební stupnici.

Norma 2026 – Rebirth
October 23 – 25, 2026, Studio Hrdinů, Prague

The three performances of this year’s festival—now in its eighth edition—will showcase the contemporary Polish dance scene. They are united by a strong conceptual foundation and an interplay between philosophy and socio-cultural themes. As in previous years, the female perspective resonates powerfully throughout these thematically significant productions. The festival will open with the Czech premiere of the dance piece Phoenix.Sun by choreographer Kasia Wolińska, a co-production between the Berlin-based Tanz im August festival and Studio Hrdinů / the Norma festival. This year’s festival once again features a performance open to young audiences: Birth Days (Polish: U-rodziny). Saturday evening will be dedicated to the piece To bitch or not to bitch by the Hertz Haus collective, a work selected for this year’s Polish Dance Platform (scheduled for September 2026). We are also continuing the practice of presenting works-in-progress with the potential for further development within the Studio Hrdinů programming; this time, the spotlight is on a performance created through the collaboration of performer Pasi Mäkelä and Ferst Dadler, an international artistic group based in the Czech Republic. The festival program will conclude on Sunday, October 25, with Theater Concrète.
We aim to open our program to the audience as much as possible and gather feedback for the artists; therefore, we have created opportunities for discussions with the creators. We also strive to familiarize theatre students closely with the work of international authors, which is why this year we have established a practical collaboration between students and faculty from the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy at Prague’s DAMU and the creators of the production Phoenix.Sun. The outcomes of this collaboration take the form of workshops and seminars. The Norma and Dance Connected festivals are hosting a laboratory gathering organized by the Performat Foundation and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. Titled Practice of Change, this meeting is part of the International Dance Alliances project; it aims to build a long-term, meaningful network supporting dance and choreography that addresses the urgent need for more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient models of artistic creation and international collaboration.
Since the Norma Festival was forced to relocate from Ostrava to Prague, its existence has been defined by the unpredictability of financial support from the Ministry of Culture (with a year of peak funding followed by a year of zero support, and so on). We have never managed to secure funding from the Prague City Hall; the city is evidently saturated with dance productions that cross disciplinary boundaries, and this will most likely be the final edition of our festival—though we continue to explore alternative ways for it to operate. It must be admitted, however, that our energy is waning when it comes to keeping this festival format—which is acclaimed abroad for its curated programming—alive.

In 2026 the festival was supported by:
The Prague Municipality, Prague 7, National Institute of Music and Dance as part of PolandDances / Tournée Program, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

“Phoenix.Sun” by Kasia Wolińska is a dance solo about destruction, renewal, and transformation. Accompanied by live music and video art, the piece portrays the body in a constant cycle of creation and decay.
Inspired by the fire sculptures of Władysław Hasior, Kasia Wolińska’s new dance solo is born from the urge to set fires: The choreography becomes a meditation on a world in flames, a sacrificial rite of mourning and birthing. “Phoenix.Sun” is created in collaboration with composer Heinali and video artist Denis Kozerawski. Held together by live music and images, the dancing body on stage constantly cycles between emergence and disintegration. Rising from the ashes of those annihilated and born in flames, the work invites the audience to gaze into the blaze and summon beauty, terror, and transformation.
Phoenix.Sun was developed during a residency at Studio Hrdinů in July 2026 and will premiere in August 2026 at the Tanz im August festival in Berlin.

Birth Days (Polish: U-rodziny) is a dance performance exploring pregnancy and birth. It is a poetic journey through the mysterious acts of creation, the formation of the human body, and the awe-inspiring physiology of being born. It speaks of the intimate processes that shape new existences and unfold untold stories. A celebration of life as it emerges—an invitation to open ourselves to what it brings.

“Existence”—a word that defines our central task—carries within it the echo of birth as an emergence. In classical Latin, ex sisto meant, quite literally, “to step out,” “to surface,” “to be born.” […] Together with all living beings, we belong to the realm of those who reveal themselves through birth, stirred by the movement of becoming. The possibility of existence is thus granted at the cost of an effort made against stagnation.
Jolanta Brach-Czaina, Cracks in Existence

The performance is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of PolandDances / Tournée Program, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

To be or not to be for the body. In cultural and social contexts, we closet concepts and – yet –
judgments. Dirty body or in purity? Unblemished or remaining what it is in its essence? Are there universal criteria to resolve the dilemmas? For female artists, physicality, guts, digestion and excretion, blemishes, eczema and stains are important; a laboratory where physiology meets philosophy.
Spots, stains and blemishes. They constantly recur in Shakespeare’s works. No doubt present directly – as signs of violence: blood stains or fatal blows. Hertz Haus, in its performance “To bitch or not to bitch,” takes as its starting point` Shakespeare’s poem , “The Rape of Lucretia,” but without reaching for direct representations of violence. Instead, she focuses on the traces that rape leaves on the female body and female psyche, and on the care of the harmed body.
It is also a story about the boundary separating the clean from the dirty and what can be shown in the theater from what should not be shown.

The play won the ShakespeareOFF competition at the 28th edition of the Shakespeare Festival in Gdansk in 2024. The award was given for its innovative approach to Shakespeare’s work on the level of content (the choice of the poem , “The Rape of Lucretia”) and the form of performance. The verdict emphasized the original approach to the theme of rape, without reaching for direct representations of violence, focusing on the traces that rape leaves on the female body and female psyche, as well as on the care of the harmed body.

The performance is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of PolandDances / Tournée Program, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Ferst Dadler with Pasi Mäkelä: Theater Concrète

Artistic team: Pasi Mäkelä, Elia Moretti, Keya Singh, Natalie Tun, Inga Zotova-Mikshina

Ferst Dadler – Elia Moretti (IT/CZ) and Inga Zotova-Mikshina (RU/CZ) – is a Prague-based experimental performative group working at the intersection of art and ecology, exploring relational structures and the politics of intimacy. Their practice spans installation, performance, sound, and community facilitation, creating spaces for collective intimacy and confrontation as ways to study and honor the complexity of interdependence. Ferst Dadler crafts performative environments for hybrid, pluralistic practices where meaning emerges through shared presence.
For their upcoming project, the group invites Pasi Mäkelä (FI/CZ) — a recently Thalia Award-nominated artist — into collaboration. A Finnish performer, musician, director, and conceptual artist, Pasi studied theatre directing at Turku Arts Academy. He is closely connected with Finnish experimental theatre scenes including Reality Research Center and Circus Maximus.
The focus here is in the consciousness itself and to transform a theater space to be as one. Especially as the area of consciousness when we fall asleep (Hypnagogia) and where we wake up (Hypnopompia). The so-called bardo states of the mind.
We try to apply the personal study of waking and falling asleep into a performance and musical progress. These states are to be found in simplified manner for example when the audience comes to the theater and the show starts or when it ends and audience leaves, also when the performer goes to stage or leaves, the altered states of mind of everyday life.
Here the apparatus of theater is an apparatus of consciousness.
We try to challenge the conventions of our performance practice, and re-build and demolish the structures of our artistic constructions, compose and decompose.
As a theater compositional way we are coining the idea of Theater concrète after the music term Musique concrète which was developed in 1948 by Pierre Schaeffer at Studio d’Essai in Paris
Musique Concrète uses Raw Materials: environmental recordings, train whistles, human voices, and machine noises rather than standard musical scale we find similar materials of the theater, rudimental gestures and positions, coming and going, the performance situation itself as opposed to text or dramatic ideas that have symbolical or intellectual meaning.
No Rules: Musique Concrète ignores normal ideas of melody, harmony, and rhythm to focus purely on sound textures. Applied to theater we ignore normal rules of story, rational ideas and sense, to focus purely on textures of space and time, Ignore the idea of common time lines, drama arches, expectation of entertainment or reason, and then again it has no rules.
